The Blake Terry (BT) Memorial Foundation
The BT Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization that was formed as a search, rescue and recovery support foundation for Diver’s like Blake. Recreational diving and spear-fishing have become an increased popular sport over the past 10 years. Because of the increase in divers, the number of diver’s that have died and/or went missing has increased to an average of 150 divers a year. Trying to rescue and recover Blake, we learned that the Coast Guard only performs surface searches, not dives. The USCG Command Center out of New Orleans kept us informed as to what they were doing at all times, however, because of the support from the different diver’s and business owners who cared and knew Blake, we were able to have an unlimited amount of divers, numerous boats and a ROV. All were donated in hopes of rescuing or recovering Blake. Although we knew that the depth of water made recovery unlikely, the dive teams did not give up until, we, as a family, told them to stop. We knew they had exhausted all efforts in trying to find him. Through the BT Memorial Foundation, our goal is to draw awareness to families and friends on what to do and how to take action if necessary. “Burning Daylight” is just a small piece, but important to have if your family member runs into trouble. We hope this book will provide you some reassurance of what to do; who to call and how to become more engaged in your loved ones love of adventure. We all know there are risks, but never do we expect “THE CALL”.

Things to track:
1. Who are you diving with?
2. Name of the boat?
3. What launch are you going out of?
4. How far out?
5. Make sure you have all cell numbers available.
6. Make sure you have cell numbers of diving friends who are not on the boat.
7. Do they have a radio?
8. Always have this book available when your loved one heads out to dive.
