The Blake Terry Memorial Foundation (BTMF) organization is a search, rescue and recovery (SRR) support organization for lost divers. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to honor the life of Blake Anthony Terry. Blake was lost to the Gulf of Mexico on August 13, 2011. He was a veteran spear fisherman/diver with over 500 dives logged and reaching depths of up to 250 feet.
Our team operates to maintain three primary objectives:
The logistical efforts of maintaining this type of team is heavily reliant on local authorities and the available man-power is based entirely of volunteers who have a passion for fishing and the Gulf of Mexico like Blake.
The BTMF is responsible for the coordination of each response team which includes trained personnel who maintain certifications and skills while sustaining a reliable communication system to ensure the best team is ready for the fastest response. Furthermore, the foundation has access to equipment such as sonar systems, remotely operating underwater vehicle (ROV), rescue boats, fuel, and medical supplies. The foundation supports the finances for this expensive and necessary equipment with the help of donations and member contributions.
The BTMF has teamed with other SRR organizations to learn the latest technology and response times based on lessons learned. In addition, we provide emotional and legal support to the families during and long after the search is over. BTMF serves the Gulf Coast states - Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Texas.
